The actions performed on the day of Jumu'ah (Friday) when sins are forgiven

In Islam, the day of Jumu'ah (Friday) is considered extremely significant. The Holy Quran instructs believers to hasten to the mosque when the call to prayer for Jumu'ah is made. Additionally, important practices related to Jumu'ah are described in hadiths. It is stated, "O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew." (Surah Al-Jumu'ah, Ayah 9)

Several significant actions related to the day of Jumu'ah are discussed:

1. **Special Merit of Jumu'ah:**

According to a narration from Abu Lubabah bin Abdul Munzir (RA), the Prophet (SAW) mentioned five distinctive qualities of Jumu'ah. These include:

   - Allah created Adam (AS) on this day.

   - Adam (AS) was sent down to Earth on this day.

   - Adam (AS) passed away on this day.

   - There is a time on this day when whatever a servant asks of Allah, He grants it, as long as it is not a forbidden request.

   - The Day of Judgment will occur on this day. (Ibn Majah, Hadith 895)

2. **Observance of Jumu'ah Prayer:**

Salman Al-Farsi (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever takes a bath on Jumu'ah, purifies himself as much as he can, applies oil (on his hair) or scents himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumu'ah prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutbah, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven." (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 883)

3. **Performing Ghusl (Bath) on Jumu'ah:**

Performing ghusl on the day of Jumu'ah and going to the mosque early are highly rewarded actions. Aus bin Aus Sakafi (RA) narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumu'ah prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutbah, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven." (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 841)

4. **Entering the Mosque First:**

Entering the mosque early on Jumu'ah and listening attentively to the Khutbah (sermon) are of great significance. The Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday like Ghusl for Janabah, then comes to the prayer (in the first hour, i.e., early), it is as if he sacrificed a camel. Whoever comes at the second hour, it is as if he sacrificed a cow; whoever comes at the third hour, then it is as if he sacrificed a horned ram; whoever comes at the fourth hour, it is as if he sacrificed a chicken; and whoever comes at the fifth hour, then it is as if he offered an egg. And when the Imam comes out (i.e., starts delivering the Khutbah), the angels present themselves to listen to the Khutbah." (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 841)

5. **Acceptance of Du'a on Jumu'ah:**

There is a moment on Jumu'ah when any Muslim who makes a du'a to Allah, it will be accepted. Jabir (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, "There is an hour on Friday during which Allah grants to a Muslim servant standing in prayer whatever he asks for." (Abu Dawood, Hadith 1048)

6. **Recitation of Surah Al-Kahf:**

Another significant practice of Jumu'ah is reciting Surah Al-Kahf. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, it will illuminate him with light from one Friday to the next." (Sahih at-Targhib, Hadith 1473)

7. **Promise of Forgiveness:**

Salman Al-Farsi (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, uses his (hair) oil, applies the perfume of his house, then proceeds (for the Jumu'ah prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allah has) written for him and remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutbah, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven." (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 883)

8. **Sending Salutations upon the Prophet (SAW):**

It is a duty on Jumu'ah to send abundant salutations upon the Prophet (SAW). Aus bin Abi Aus (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said, "The best of your days is Friday. On it Adam (AS) was created, on it he died, on it the trumpet will be blown, and on it the shout will be made, so send blessings upon me abundantly on that day, for your blessings will be presented to me." The Companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how will our blessings be presented to you when your body has decayed?" He replied, "Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets." (Abu Dawood, Hadith 1047)

These practices and beliefs highlight the significance of Jumu'ah in Islam, encouraging Muslims to engage in virtuous deeds and seek forgiveness on this blessed day.
