Trump prepares for the debate by hinting at jailing election officials.

Donald Trump geared up for his debate with Kamala Harris by showcasing the extremism that could bolster the vice president’s argument that he’s an “unserious man” and a “serious threat” if he returns to the White House.

Trump, facing off against Harris, warned that he would jail election officials he deems corrupt, accused Pennsylvania’s voting process of being fraudulent, vowed to pardon January 6 rioters, and lashed out at women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. In recent days, he has also engaged in lengthy, sometimes incoherent rants that have raised concerns about his mental state.

Despite these controversies, new polls ahead of Tuesday’s debate in Philadelphia show the race is neck and neck nationally. This suggests that Harris’s momentum after replacing President Joe Biden on the ticket hasn’t given her a decisive lead.

The tight race highlights Trump’s continued appeal to millions of Americans as he seeks a political comeback and the significant challenge Harris faces in trying to win an election that seemed lost for Democrats before Biden stepped aside.

This sets the stage for Tuesday’s debate, the first since the pivotal CNN clash in June that effectively ended Biden’s campaign, making it the most crucial event before Election Day.
